About Me
Hello everyone, and welcome to my DP. My name is Rebecca Markowitz and I am a current 12th grader at High Tech High International, which is a project based learning school that fosters leadership, collaboration, and presentation skills. I am active student within my school community, as the Fonder and President of Science Club and Math Mondays, Vice President of Key Club, Founding Member of Student Senate, Yearbook Co Editor in Chief, and am a HTHI Ambassador. I am very dedicated student and truly enjoy learning just for the sake of learning. I think this passion towards education will help me in college when classes get super hard. I plan on being an engineer when I grow up and am constantly doing activities to improve my understanding of STEM fields. I have taken a few engineering college classes. I also have participated in BeWise, which stands for Better Education for Women in Science and Engineering, since 8th grade. I am a founding member of Team Rectify, a robotics team that competes in FIRST Robotics Competition. Working on a small team, I have gotten hands-on experience with every aspect of planning, construction, and operation our robots. In January of my Junior year I also interned at Qualcomm Thinkabit Lab, where I taught middle school students about Qualcomm, different areas of engineering, how to code an Arduino, and helped them build Robocrafts. From this internship I have gotten the opportunity to build a prosthetic hand for a little 7 year old girl named Joci. I am also currently working on a self portrait stippling robot with support from employees at Qualcomm and the Thinkabit Lab. When I am not at school, studying, or building cool robots, I am usually curled up on my bed reading Harry Potter, tutoring middle and high schoolers in math, painting pretty pictures, playing nerdy board games (like Catan or Avalon), hanging out with friends and family, or snuggling with my puppy Charlie. I have a very busy life and I love every second of it. Although some days (or everyday) I wish I had Hermione's Time Turner, that allows her to have more time in the day, I honestly wouldn't be myself if I had it. I wouldn't have learnt how to manage my stress and balance my hectic life. Until I get my Hogwarts acceptance letter I'll continue loving my nerdy life (and when I actually do get my letter I'll die with happiness).
