Exhibition
The exhibition turned out better than I hoped for. We had it at the New American Museum which was inspirational because we exhibited our work next to professional artists. Shinpei Takeda Inscription Instillation was in the same room as our exhibition and similar to our work, his instillation represented peoples stories with the theme of arrival. Our classes also contributed to his art piece by sending in 50 word stories. Heres mine:
Tears pounded down my face, as if to magnify to everyone that I am a white privileged girl. They scream at me, “it shouldn’t be this way.” Entering into a unclouded lens of the world. The thundering questions of preconceived judgments certain races receive, rumbles in my head.
He used these stories and weaved them together by connecting the first letter of the story to the last with yarn on a giant wall.
Being outside of High Tech High International walls and being able to exhibit in the "real world" was amazing. My class really pulled through to get ready for exhibition and it showed. I was really proud of the leadership position I took with this project. I organized my whole team by creating shifts of where people should be at certain times throughout the night and prepping them on what they should say. I also helped out with re-gluing and putting up our cranky scrolls. Although just a few hours before exhibition the room looked like a disaster it came together and ended up being one of my favorite exhibitions, because I was able to honor my Grandma in such a significant way.
