Joci's Prosthetic Hand
Joci is a 7 year old funny, tomboyish, humble girl. Unfortunatly she was born with no fingers on her right hand because the embilalcord cut their circulation off. She has managed to live her everyday life pretty normally. She has not adapted her life around this disability but instead does all of the activities she enjoys most, including: softball, soccer, tennis, ect. She can hold objects with her right hand finger numbs in an adnormal way...but it works for her. She has taught herself how to do activities that people with all ten fingers whould deem as simple. During this project I used already designed prosthetic hands for reference and designed my own custom hand. In the begining of this process I 3D printed her a hand that could be used for everyday use but soon realized that it would be no use to her...she is too well adapted to everyday activities. I am now working on a costom softball hand so she can truely enjoy her passion. I have been working on this project at Qualcomm Thinkabit Lab Tinkering Nights and because of my passion for engineering and the application of this hand other Qualcomm employees have taken an interest in the project and our now helping me. To the right is Joci and I at one of her hand fittings, in the bottom right corner is Cody, an Electrical Engineer at Qualcomm, and I, and below is a draft of the prosthetic hand.
